PORT OF SPAIN, March 28 /PRNewswire-AsiaNet/ --

A programme of extensive and intensive training in food handling has been executed across the region for food handlers Cricket World Cup 2007 venues.

The training was carried out by experts from the Pan American Health Organisation/World Health Organisation (PAHO/WHO), along with the Trinidad and Tobago-based Caribbean Epidemiological Centre (CAREC), and funded by the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).

All caterers inside the venues are trained to the same high standard across the region and have received official certification. The aim of the programme is to ensure that the thousands of fans coming to the Caribbean can enjoy a complete Caribbean experience, with each venue offering a taste of its respective local culinary specialties.

"Food safety is being treated with the same level of seriousness and professionalism for the Cricket World Cup as security or any other aspect of this historic event in the Caribbean," said Ms. Veta Browne, Coordinator for the Public Health Sub-programme with CARICOM IMPACS, who worked on the project.
