A Unique Taste Of Australia

A Unique Taste Of Australia

More than four and a half million people visit Australian wineries each year, equivalent to the population of New Zealand! Twelve per cent of overseas tourists that visit Australia experience it’s famous wines, including over 60,000 New Zealanders who visited an Australian winery in 2006.

Vito Anzelmi, Regional Manager for Tourism Australia, New Zealand believes Australia is the perfect place for Kiwis to experience different and unique food and wine.

“With more than 15,000 cafes and restaurants, and 2,176 wineries, Australia is a great place for visitors to try new tastes and indulge in a unique culinary experience.

“Australia offers something for all visitors, from bottling your own wine to dining in a sensational location. There are many food and wine experiences for Kiwis to choose from,” says Anzelmi.

Below are a number of Tourism Australia’s suggestions for unique food and wine experiences.

Just one month a year, every Sunday in May, fungi expert Cameron Russell at Cameron & Phillippe at Queen Victoria Markets, takes visitors on an amazing mushroom-picking picnic. The day involves hunting for all varieties of mushrooms, with experts on hand who can assure your finds are safe to eat. The day ends at the Mornington Peninsula winery where visitors can cook a three-course mushroom feast.
