Setting several world records “FERRARI: Leggenda e Passione” sale was highlighted by the exceptional AU$11.2/NZ$12.5 million sale of the incredible Le Mans winning 1962 Ferrari 330 TRI/LM Testa Rossa (Chassis 0808) that was piloted to victory by world champion Phil Hill and Oliver Gendebien - one of the most valuable and important Ferraris ever offered at auction.

One of most recent offerings was Felipe Massa’s first Grand Prix winning 2006 Formula 1 car that changed hands at AU$2.6/NZ$2.9 million. Top sellers of the memorabilia collection from Ferrari’s archives was a 1:24 scale model of a F2004 race car used for wind tunnel testing that drew a bid of AU$81,057/NZ$91,250 and an original Formula 1 steering wheel used by world champion Michael Schumacher during the 2005 racing season which brought AU$103,250/NZ$116,892.

Other world auction records set at the Maranello sale included the following Ferrari cars:

- 1953 340/375 MM Berlinetta Competizione (AU$6.88/NZ$7.76 million )
- 1970 512 S Sports Car (AU$4.26/NZ$4.8 million)
- 1966 Dino 206 SP (AU$3.9/NZ$4.4 million)
- 1953 340 MM Competition Spyder (AU$3.7/NZ$4.2 million)
- 1971 Daytona Spyder (AU$1.63/NZ$1.84million)

- 1985 288 GTO Prototype (AU$829,425/NZ$935,139)

Other unusual lots that caught the eye and imagination of bidders included a poster for the Cuban GP, an old Ferrari watch and the Ferrari tandem bike made by Colnago for the Ferrari Store.

Last but far from least was the Mille Miglia Cup that Ferrari CEO Luca di Montezemolo wanted to buy for the Galleria Ferrari and which RM Auctions co-founder wanted to give the Company as a gift, while the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano that starred in the 2006 Panamerican 20,000 tour – still complete with decals and still with a slighter higher suspension set-up to cope with the tough Andean roads also went under the hammer.

Attendees of the auction preview were treated to an exclusive demonstration by Ferrari’s top F1 test driver Luca Badoer who delighted the audience and international journalists with a few laps around the famous Fiorano test track in Maranello driving the 1962 Ferrari 330 TRI/LM. Other historic laps were made by other auction cars including the 1953 Ferrari 340 MM and the 1987 F40 Prototype.
