PA unity government: Fayyad's cabinet illegitimate
GAZA, (PIC)-- The PA unity government has affirmed that PA chief Mahmoud Abbas' step of forming a government to implement his emergency declared conditions in the PA-run land was in violation of the PA basic law.
The PA premiership in a statement on Sunday expressed surprise over Abbas' insistence not to table this new government at the PLC, which is the sole party granting legitimacy to any government.
The statement said that the unity government would continue carrying out its duties in accordance with the law.
The new government headed by Salam Fayyad was sworn-in at noon Sunday although with some portfolios remaining vacant, apparently for failing to find candidates accepting to join it.
Abbas issued a number of presidential decrees suspending work of certain articles in the PA basic law in a bid to evade tabling the new government with the PLC to win a confidence vote.
