Pastors for Peace Defy anti-Cuba Blockade
Prensa Latina - July 15

Washington, Jul 15 (Prensa Latina) Activists from the Pastors for Peace organization challenge the US blockade against Cuba, and are preparing to bring 90 tons of humanitarian aid for the Cuban people.

Nearly 150 caravan members arrived in McAllen, Texas, on Friday, and will try to cross the border with Mexico on July 17, challenging the illegal blockade measures, according to organizers.

This 18th Pastors for Peace Friendshipment Caravan to Cuba includes activists from the US, Canada, Mexico, and several European countries.

"Anything might happen on the border," and the Bush administration is vindictive and poorly organized, said Reverend Lucius Walker, executive director of the Interreligious Foundation for Community Organization (IFCO).

Walker also denounced authorities stopped the medical aid on the Maine-Canada border, but allowed to take it from Vancouver and Winnipeg.

Apart from 90 tons of medicine, the aid includes seven vehicles, several school buses, and two trucks.

"On our way through the US, many people showed interest in knowing more about the Cuban health system, especially after seeing Michael Moore's Sicko," said Ellen Bernstein, a leader of the group.

Upon its arrival in Cuba, the group will attend the first graduation of US students at the Latin American School of Medicine in Havana.
