Defence + Industry Event Boosts Capacity And Performance
The 2007 Defence + Industry regional briefing has been held in Sydney today with delegates from industry and Defence in attendance.
The annual briefing is hosted by the Defence Materiel Organisation (DMO) on behalf of the Australian Government.
The event's theme was 'Supplying Nationally, Competing Globally - Performance, Partnerships and Innovation'. The conference provided industry with the latest information about the Government's plans for Defence, with a focus on procurement priorities for the coming decade.
DMO Chief Executive Officer, Dr Stephen Gumley, said the Defence + Industry regional briefing brought together senior Defence officials and senior executives from Australia's biggest defence contractors.
"DMO currently is managing more than 200 projects, each valued at greater than $20 million and with the largest at $15 billion," Dr Gumley said.
"DMO has acquisition projects valued at more than $60 billion under management with a further $40 billion of whole-of-life sustainment projects over 10 years.
"The Government expects DMO to deliver maximum value for every dollar spent on its acquisition and through-life support contracts."
Dr Gumley said the regional briefing afforded Defence the opportunity to communicate with industry suppliers about the Australian Government's requirements and reinforced close relations with industry.
"The Defence relationship with industry is essential to get the capabilities the Australian Defence Force needs to do its job," he said.
