OECD Economic Survey of the United Kingdom
Economic Survey of the United Kingdom
The OECD's latest economic survey of the UK, to be published on Thursday 27 September 2007, includes a special look at the reforms needed to raise skill levels across the workforce. It also analyses issues such as taxation, planning regulations and transport infrastructure.
The survey will be available to journalists in English on the OECD's password-protected website at 11.00 a.m. Paris time (10.00 in London; 09.00 GMT) for immediate release.
A Policy Brief with the main conclusions of the survey will be freely accessible in pdf format (in English and French) on the OECD's web site at www.oecd.org/eco/surveys/uk. You are invited to include this internet link in reports on the survey.
Among the questions investigated by the survey are:
* What is the near-term outlook?
* What are the fiscal challenges?
* What needs to be done to raise skill levels?
* How can spending on schools be used more efficiently?
* How can the functioning of the labour market be improved?
* What can be done to boost productivity growth?
* What can be done to maintain tax competitiveness without impacting revenues?
The study will be sent by e-mail on request only.
