Bloody Crackdown Begins in Burma [Images]
A bloody crackdown by the military junta on monks and peaceful pro-democracy demonstrators has begun.





Soldiers blocked entrances to Shwedagon Pagoda in Rangoon, and have fired teargas to disperse the crowds. Monks have been beaten and 250 monks arrested.
In downtown Rangoon soldiers fired shots over the heads of a gathering crowd who were awaiting the arrival of a column of around 10,000 protestors marching towards Sule Pagoda in central Rangoon.
