Ahmadinejad Calls Mideast Conference a Failure
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says Tuesday's U.S.-brokered Middle East peace conference in Annapolis was a "failure," and that Israel is "doomed to collapse."
State-run media quote Mr. Ahmadinejad as saying at a Cabinet meeting Wednesday in Tehran that Israel's collapse is inevitable because, as he put it, it is a leadership created on "aggression, oppression and crime."
The Iranian president says the only way to resolve the decades-old dispute between Israel and the Palestinians is to allow the Palestinians, including the Islamist militant group Hamas, to have a say in any settlement.
In other news, two Iranian news agencies, IRNA and Mehr, quote Mr. Ahmadinejad as calling for the publication of intelligence documents allegedly given to Britain by former Iranian nuclear negotiator, Hossein Mousavian.
Iran's judiciary Tuesday cleared Mousavian of two counts of espionage and of holding classified information.
The Iranian president alleges that Mousavian passed the information to the British embassy in Tehran. He says he will insist that the matter come to light in Iran's press.
