Gunman Kills 8 In US Shopping Mall, Kills Self
Gunman Kills Eight in US Shopping Mall Before Killing Self
A gunman at a shopping mall in the midwestern U.S. state of Nebraska shot to death at least eight people Wednesday before killing himself.
Police in Omaha, Nebraska said they believed the man was the only shooter in the incident at the Westroads Mall, which was crowded with holiday shoppers. Authorities identified the shooter as a 19 or 20-year-old local man named Robert Hawkins and said he had left his mother a suicide note.
In addition to the dead, five other people were wounded - at least two of them critically.
Witnesses inside the mall reported hearing gunshots from an upper floor. Some said they took cover, while others ran outside.
President Bush had visited Omaha earlier in the day, but departed before the shooting took place.
