Key Taliban Facilitator Detained, Paktika Province
ANSF detains key Taliban facilitator in Paktika Province
Afghan National Security Forces detained a high value target during an operation in Bermel District, Paktika Province, Dec. 6.
Credible intelligence provided by a rival facilitator inside of the Taliban led the ANSF to a compound suspected of housing the militant. The detainee is suspected of being a major Taliban Improvised Explosive Device facilitator and intelligence collector for a terrorist network. Also found in the compound were significant amounts of IED material, weapons and ammunition.
The suspected insurgent was taken to a military detention facility for processing and subsequently handed over to the Afghan authorities. The combined force believes this arrest will disrupt the flow of IED materials and intelligence means to other insurgents in Paktika Province.
"Afghan National Security Forces continue to get stronger and more proficient as they continue to conduct counter insurgency operations," said Army Maj. Chris Belcher, Combined Joint Task Forces-82 spokesman.
"Insurgents are increasingly turning on their own people and providing us with credible intelligence, this could only mean that unity and morale are deteriorating inside their terror network."
