PM Sikua Seeks RAMSI Support In Rural Development
The Solomon Islands Prime Minister Hon. Dr Derek Sikua said his Coalition Government will seek RAMSI assistance to implement the Government's rural development policy.
The Prime Minister said RAMSI needs to realign its activities to support the Government's rural development endeavors and efforts.
Dr Sikua said he has established a common understanding on how to deal with RAMSI during his meetings with the top leaders of Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea.
"The three leaders, whose countries contribute significantly to the mission, appreciated the common understanding we now have in dealing with RAMSI related issues through the Enhanced Consultative Mechanism meeting and the Forum Ministers Standing Committee," he said.
He said the government will set up a mechanism to review the role of RAMSI, which will be done in consultation with the Pacific Islands Forum and countries that contributed to the mission.
The Prime Minister and his delegation have officially concluded a three nation visit to PNG, Australia and New Zealand on Saturday and returned to the country early this morning.
The Prime described his visit as fruitful and symbolic to reassure Solomon Islands relations with countries in the region.
