No-Confidence Motion In Malaita Premier Withdrawn
The no-confidence motion in Malaita Premier Richard Na'amo Irosaea was withdrawn before being debated in the Malaita Provincial Assembly in Auki this morning.
Intended mover, Provincial Member for ward 26 in the West Kwaio constituency, Charles Jeffery Olofia withdrew the motion after failing to gather majority support to unseat Premier Irosaea.
Notice of the motion was submitted to the Provincial Speaker on February 4.
Premier Irosaea immediately thanked the initiators and mover of the motion saying he respects their democratic rights to move a motion through conventional democratic processes with genuine hearts and minds.
"I hold no grudges, I respect your right of opinions and association - but if you intend to move a motion then I can only urge you to do it with a genuine heart for the betterment of the people of Malaita Province" he said.
Irosaea used the opportunity to urge the Malaita Provincial Assembly to continue to work together and focus instead on the development of Malaita Province.
He encouraged Malaita Assembly members to pull together and focus on the many challenges and the needs of the people of Malaita.
"What do we see today after 29 years of Independence, all I can see is the rich getting richer, the poor getting poorer".
"Our children did not getting the right and proper education and employment prospects of many Malaitans being denied and discriminated by certain sectors of Solomon Islands", Premier Iro'saea said.
This is the first ever motion of no confidence against a premier of Malaita Province in 15 years.
The 2008 Malaita Provincial Assembly will conclude later this week.
