Founder of Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions arrested trying to prevent demolition of home in Anata
The home of the Hamdan family in Anata, which The Israeli Committee against Home Demolitions (ICAHD) rebuilt last summer as its international volunteers' summer camp rebuilding, is being demolished. The police and bulldozers are there, furniture is being taken out and although Meir Margalit of ICAHD is at court trying to get a stop demolition order.
Prof. Jeff Halper, founder and co-ordinator of the Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions has just been arrested for trying to prevent the demolition of the Hamdan family's home in Anata, which is now being demolished. The bulldozers are "only upholding the law", in contradiction to international law, the Geneva Convention, human rights of those under Occupation.
The home is inside Jerusalem's municipal borders, within sight of the Hebrew University, and fully visible on the road that leads from French Hill down towards Maale Adumim. To get to it one travels into Anata through the Shuafat Refugee Camp checkpoint, and goes to the first large traffic junction, taking a right. From there to the next T junction taking a right, in the direction of DAHIAT EL SALAAM. From there straight and then ask for the HAMDAN HOUSE (Beit Hamdan).
