UK Foreign Sec: "Release of Morgan Tsvangirai"
Foreign and Commonwealth Office (UK)
Foreign secretary calls for release of Morgan Tsvangirai
The Foreign Secretary, David Miliband, said today,
"The British Government is greatly disturbed by the reported detention of Morgan Tsvangirai and other key members of the opposition. The history of violence and intimidation against the opposition is a stain on Zimbabwe.
All should be released immediately. The second round of the elections is Zimbabwe's chance to save itself. There must be equal opportunity for both parties to campaign without hindrance. The violence we have seen so far and the efforts to politicise food and aid distribution must not be a precursor to a rigged election."
