High Hopes for Homecoming with Worldwide Toast
High Hopes for Homecoming with Worldwide Toast to Robert Burns
As Scotland prepares itself for the start of the Homecoming, toasts to The Immortal Memory of Robert Burns are reverberating around the globe from Jura to Jakarta and Edinburgh to Ecuador!
HRH The Princess Royal is one of the latest in the line of well wishers for the Worldwide Toast in support of the Homecoming Year and Robert Burns 250th Anniversary.
Event organisers, Julie Deans and Steve Higson brace themselves for what is hoped will be one of Scotland’s biggest celebrations. In the same week as Barack Obama makes history, Scots everywhere are proud to see Robert Burns uniting the world in what is hoped will be an equally historic occasion.
At the forefront of the Worldwide Toast, Julie said “This weekend will see literally millions of people all around the world raising a glass to the Bard and uniting every corner of the globe in celebration of Burns in this special Homecoming year. Thousands of Burns Suppers are taking place and we hope to record as many glasses raised as possible on our specially designed Worldwide Toast web-site.”
The Falkirk based pair urged everyone to take part and explained “It’s really easy since all you need to do is raise a glass, add up the numbers and complete a brief form on the web-site www.worldwidetoasttorobertburns.com to record your numbers. All toasts taking place from now until 7th February will be counted towards the overall total and forms are already flying in from all corners of the globe.
In honour of Burns and Scotland, it is hoped that millions across the world will unite with their Toasts and become part of this historic event.
The team are also fundraising for the new Robert Burns Birthplace Museum in Alloway. Shonaig Macpherson, Chairman of the NTS, referred to the campaign as “an exciting project” and the thrilling yet simple ‘Donate a Pound Campaign’ will give the opportunity for all corners of the globe to contribute a single pound so that everyone can help to ‘give something back to Burns.’
