SOLOMON ISLANDS THANKS PNG FOR FLOOD ASSISTANCE
The Solomon Islands Government has thanked the Government of Papua New Guinea for its contribution towards the recent floods in Solomon Islands.
Solomon Islands High Commissioner to PNG, Bernard Bata’anisia, expressed gratitude when he officially received a cheque of K100, 000.00 equivalent to SB$262,030.00 from PNG Prime Minister, Sir Michael Somare, at a brief ceremony at on Saturday.
HE Mr. Bernard Bata’anisia expressed SI Governments’ sincere thanks and gratitude to the Prime Minister and the Government and people of Papua New Guinea, for the generous assistance.
He added that the assistance will go a long way in helping those who have been affected by the recent floods which killed at least 13 people.
Mr Bata’anisia added that PNG and Solomon Islands are close neighbors sharing a common bond of friendship, maritime boundary and close ties, which has been forged and strengthen over the years.
“Our peoples have stood side by side both in good times and in challenging times. This is one of the events that have brought us close together,” said High Commissioner Bata’anisia.
The presentation ceremony was witnessed by PNG Government Ministers, Departmental Heads and the local media in Port Moresby.
