The Barbaric Acts on Tamils by Mobs in Melbourne
We Condemn The Barbaric Acts on Tamils by the Sinhalese Mobs in Melbourne
On Saturday 04 April 2009, a group of Sri Lankan Sinhalese chauvinists attacked a ‘Drive for Freedom’ peace rally organised by Sri Lankan Tamils in Melbourne.
The Eelam Tamils were protesting the Genocide of Tamils in Sri Lanka by the Sri Lankan Government.
The organisers of the Tamil protest planned the cavalcade with prior permission from the Victorian Police and indicated to Police the route in which they will be following.
The Sinhalese mob attack took place on the planned route, while the cars in the rally were waiting for the signal lights on Exhibition Street. The attackers were from a demonstration that took place 2 km away from the junction.
Due to the nature of the attacks, the Melbourne Police had to resort to the use of spray to control the Sinhala mob.
A journalist who was taking photo of the attack was attacked himself when he mob tried to snatch his camera off him and injured him in the process.
An eyewitness and spokesperson for the Tamils said, “One person was admitted to the hospital after some Sinhalese hit him with a beer bottle. The Tamil person fainted on the spot and he had seven stitches on his head. Also, few others were badly injured and bitten”
He also added, “This (attacks) has happened in few places on the road and the Sinhalese took 15-20 of our national flags and attacked almost every one of us, which includes women and aged people. Most of our vehicles were damaged”
What is horrific about this situation is that it brings back traumatising memories of the state-sponsored riots against Tamils in Sri Lanka. The first of these riots happened in 1956 when Tamils performed a Gandhi-style non-violent protest against a discriminate bill passed in Government. The peaceful protest was broken up by Sinhala mobs and violence against Tamils spread to other parts of the island. Hundreds of Tamils were driven out of their homes, attacked and their houses burned. Even worse, were the 1983 riots where Tamil homes and businesses were burned down, woman were raped and families murdered. A Hindu priest was even dragged out of the temple and burned alive.
The anti-Tamil violence in Sri Lanka clearly demonstrated to Tamils that the Sinhala state was trying to marginalise them.
The YouTube video below shows the barbaric attacks on the Tamil protesters. The writing at the beginning of the video encourages the violence against Tamils. This is exact mindset held by the Sinhala-majority Government, which encourages discrimination against Tamils not just in Sri Lanka but also around the world.

The
second link below, is the invitation/advertisement for the
protest by the Sinhalese, if you read the last line of the
advertisement, it asks the Sinhalese to bring Kerosene cans
to the rally.

Tamils
around the world have been attacked by barbaric Sinhalese
mobs.
For example, in Germany last year, a Tamil man was
stabbed, allegedly by Sinhala thugs outside a Sri Lankan
Exhibition. The victim was able to point-out his attackers.
The Sri Lankan Government has carefully engineered the Genocide of Tamils and are disguising this as ‘War on Terrorism’.
We the Tamils of New Zealand, fled from a country that mistreated us to one that we believe will protect us. These aggressive assaults by the Sinhalese that are brainwashed by the Sri Lankan Government prove that Tamils are not safe anywhere.
Actions speak louder than words; so we ask the New Zealand public to look at the actions of these barbarians and judge for yourself. Why are they trying to strop us from having our say?
