Britain first
electric car goes on sale
:
Britain’s first family sized electric car has been launched in London.
Manufacturers of the Citroen C1 Ev`ie say the car represents the future of ‘green’ motoring and some of it will be assembled in Britain.
The Citroen C1 Ev`ie. is an electric powered four-seater capable of speeds up to sixty miles an hour . The C1 Ev’ie is chargeable from an ordinary domestic power point for under a pound
The Ev`ie’s body will be manufactured in the Czech Republic and its electriccircuitry assembled in the United Kingdom .
David Martell, the Chief Executive, of the Electric Car Corporation says “Something like thirty per cent of all CO2 emissions come from the private motor car. Obviously as we go more and more to green electrical generation, your car is not emitting any CO2,and that makes a huge difference to the environment.”
“The Ev`ie is initially more expensive than a petrol car because the batteries are more expensive .”
David Martell says “ it will cost you £16,000 but once you have bought the car it is very low cost to run. One re-charge costs just 90 pence , you don’t get congestion charges, road tax and more importantly in London you can park for free in many places.”
The
Electric Car Corporation believes their car is the first
serious alternative to a petrol or diesel car; driving like
a petrol car and is perfect for city
driving.
