The Gathering 2009 is the biggest clan gathering ever and will be the unmissable event in Scotland this year.  A world-class line up for the Highland Games and Scottish Festival taking place in the centre of the capital city, on 25 and 26 July is bringing Scotland fans home in their droves during the year of Homecoming Scotland 2009. During the celebratory weekend of Scottish culture, there will be a phenomenal array of events to provide a feast for the senses:

·         Join the parade of 6000+ people as they march up the Royal Mile to the Castle Esplanade, to witness the world premiere of a specially-written pageant entitled Aisling’s Children; Tales of the Homecoming.

·         Marvel at the incredible feats of strength displayed by the athletes competing at the Deuchars World Highland Games Championships.  These strong men will come from all over the world to battle it out for the ultimate title of World Champion.

·         Listen to International best-selling authors Alexander McCall Smith and Diana Gabaldon, who join the big names in contemporary Scottish culture performing over the weekend, such as musicians Dougie Maclean, Capercaillie, Roddy Hart and the Red Hot Chilli Pipers.

·         Tantalise your tastebuds with a wee dram of whisky at the Talisker Taste Experience, followed by quality Scottish produce from more than 30 food producers and get creative at the craft stalls, all housed in the marquee area.

The Gathering 2009 will cover the entire area of Edinburgh’s Holyrood Park, behind the magnificent Holyrood Palace and involve hundreds of participants, including 125 clan and family associations, more than 350 Highland dancers, and 60 crafts and food producers, all housed within 200 individual marquees covering almost 8000 square metres. Thousands of visitors from more than 34 countries have already secured their tickets.
