Conference: Solomon Islands Climate Change Action
A side event at the final climate change negotiations currently underway in Barcelona, Spain - has heard of Solomon Islands' Planning and Action for Climate Change Adaptation.
Speaking at the 'Ecosystem Based
Adaptation: Resilient Nature- Resilient People' conference -
Environment Permanent Secretary Rence Sore said that
ecosystem based approaches to adaptation offer an
opportunity to address impacts of climate change.
Mr
Sore also showcased community planning for adaptation to
climate change in Choiseul Province which involves women,
youth and children.
He said community planning in
Choiseul is strongly supported by the Lauru Lands Conference
and mainstreamed into the Choiseul Provincial development
plan.
He said this is the practical climate adaptation
that the world should adopt and it comes from a small island
developing state.
Mr Sore said climate change
adaptation in Choiseul is community driven.
He said
the Solomon Islands Government is not only providing policy
guidelines but also providing a coordinating role on climate
change adaptation with support from International NGO's and
development
partners.
