Indonesian Ambassador Denied Entry to "Greening"
An invitation to the Indonesian Ambassador to the UK to attend the London launch of 'Greening Indonesia' has been revoked by the organisers.
Following lobbying from a
number of human rights groups, the organisers informed the
Indonesian Embassy in London that the Indonesian Ambassador
would no longer be welcome at the event, taking place
tonight in London.
Speaking from the UK based Free
West Papua Campaign, a spokesman offered these comments 'We
unfortunately feel that from the outset the Indonesian
Ambassador was an entirely inappropriate choice of guest for
a progressive and caring environmental organisation such as
Greening Indonesia. Far from being a supporter of planting
trees, the Indonesian Ambassador represents a state that is
responsible for the continued destruction of the
rainforests. To the people and forests of West Papua, this
man is a representative of the state that is brutally
killing them. We are delighted that the organisers have
decided to revoke his invitation to this event. The
Indonesian Ambassador to the UK has Papuan blood on his
hands and we will continue to lobby and protest at every
event that he is invited to
attend.'
