Swedish Refugee: Security Assessment Was Political

Swedish 'ASIO Problem' Refugee Claims Security Assessment Was Politically Motivated

Former Nauru detainee Mohammed Sagar, now living in Sweden and accepted by that country as a genuine refugee, claims in a message to his Facebook friends, that the negative ASIO determination he received while on Nauru, was politically motivated.

(Contacts for Mr Sagar and the full Facebook message are available from Project SafeCom)

Mohammed Sagar, who now calls himself Joseph, wrote to his friends on Facebook during August last year, that he was told by the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) on Nauru that the adverse security assessment against him "would never be reversed" because it was said to be backing the strength of the then Prime Minister John Howard's justification for the offshore processing policy on Nauru.

Mr Sagar also claims in the message that he was offered a six-figure sum by Immigration officials if he would drop his protection claim and agree to be repatriated.
