NZ US Council Welcomes Mike Moore Appointment
The NZ US Council today welcomed the appointment of Rt Hon Mike Moore as Ambassador to Washington.
“Mike Moore brings some unique experience to his role in representing New Zealand in the United States” said Council Chairman, Rt Hon James Bolger.
“Mike’s appointment comes at a time when New Zealand is negotiating a free trade agreement with the United States in the context of the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP). As a former politician and Director General of the World Trade Organisation Mike will be well placed to encourage the Obama Administration to maintain an open and outward looking trade policy and to develop Congressional support for TPP”.
Mr Bolger said the NZ US Council had worked closely with Mr Moore over recent years.
“Mike has joined me as Co-Chair of the US NZ Partnership Forum which has played a key role in developing the relationship with the United States. Mike is well known to the Council’s supporters and already has a wide network of key contacts in Washington. We look forward to continuing to work with him in his new and important role”.
