Fresh Arrests, Women And Students Are The New Targets
Palestinian forces loyal to president Mahmoud Abbas in West Bank have raised their assaults against Palestinian activists, whom most are loyal to Hamas Movement. Since last Thursday, 18 people were arrested and tens others were called for inquiry. Some of these calls were sent to wives of prisoners to perform more pressure on them.
In a fresh development, the Israeli-backed Palestinian forces have arrested Leila Saado Fayez Saqer on 7th of February from her house. Mrs. Saqer is the spouse of the arrested Hamas member Ahmed Nabhan Saqer from Nablus city. This dangerous escalation came after a call for her to be questioned by the Intelligence Agency in Nablus.
Many students were among the imprisoned activists. Students loyal to Hamas are being a target for arrest campaigns as the elections for university student governments is coming near in most Palestinian Institutions in West Bank. Those arrests came for the benefit of Fatah Movement, according to student sources, the Hamas rival.
It is been now 90 days since Tariq Abu Zeid, Aqsa TV Correspondent, being arrested by Palestinian forces. Abu Zeid has been detained and tortured since November 8, 2009. Abu Zeid’s detention comes in a series of campaigns against Freedom of Expression and Speech carried out by Palestinian Forces in West Bank.
