Reg and Jim’s Extraordinary Taxi Ride Begins!

Reg and Jim’s Extraordinary Taxi Ride Begins!

And they’re taking lots of people with them…

Tomorrow Kiwi mates, Reg and Jim, winners of The Extraordinary Taxi Ride Promotion, will be hailing a cab to cross a thousand kilometres of Western Australia.

Following close behind will be a documentary crew, a TVNZ Breakfast crew and chief travel reporter from the Herald on Sunday – all of whom will bring the extraordinary experience back for New Zealanders to see.

Plus plenty more will be watching Reg and Jim’s progress as the thrill of the global promotion captures the imagination of over 40 million people around the world.

The Extraordinary Taxi Ride Worldwide Promotion involves a 10,000 kilometre taxi ride across Western Australia – with seven sets of international passengers from New Zealand, WA, Singapore, Malaysia, New South Wales, Victoria and Germany travelling on different legs through the State’s extraordinary experiences. The Extraordinary Taxi Ride can be followed at http://www.extraordinarytaxiride.com and the NZ site: http://www.extraordinarytaxiride.co.nz/

Australian Tourism Minister, Liz Constable, said of the promotion, “We’ve had coverage in the Guardian in the United Kingdom and the New York Times and Washington Post in the USA. And taxi driver Doug Slater has been interviewed on radio stations from as far afield as Moscow, Mexico and Germany. We have also had huge success online with social networking sites, plus the campaign website has had more than 130,000 visits, as people tune in to short films of each journey leg.”

New Zealand has also taken to the promotion, with media from North and South covering the event, including Breakfast and Newstalk ZB interviewing TWA’s NZ Manager, Lisa D’Souza. Reg and Jim will now take on the adventure with TVNZ’s Breakfast and the Herald on Sunday in tow and bring much of the spectacle of Western Australia back to New Zealand shores.

Reg is a Property Manager in Wellington and his mate Jim is a custom shoemaker, who created shoes for Lord of the Rings and has since continued a tidy trade in making shoes for a number of celebrities.

When Jim is not crafting new soles, he’s searching for interesting souls – satisfying his wanderlust with world travel and reporting on all of his adventures in his blog: http://holesinmysoles.blogspot.com/

Reg and Jim will be hailing their cab on the 01st of June and heading to The Gibb River Road for nine days, starting with an iconic 4WD adventure across the Kimberley – one of the world’s last true wilderness areas.

Reg and Jim will then ditch the 4WD to return to their trusty taxi but not for long because the next stop will be cattle mustering and then barramundi fishing. After all of that the boys will have earned a well-deserved rest under waterfalls and in hot thermal springs. Highlights include staying at El Questro Wilderness Park and Home Valley Station.

Best of luck Reg and Jim!
