The Burmese Nuclear Programme
The Burmese Nuclear Programme
Press Release: Terry Evans
8 June 2010
A recent defection by Sai Thein Win, a former Burmese army major, has shed light on Burma's fledgling nuclear program. The papers and photographs he smuggled out of Burma detail experiments with specialised equipment needed to build a nuclear reactor to make plutonium and develop a uranium enrichment program.
Last week US Senator Jim Webb, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on East Asia and Pacific Affairs, postponed a trip to Burma because of these sensational allegations.
The disturbing news that Burma's ruthless junta has embarked on a program to develop nuclear weapons should sound alarm bells throughout the international community.
