Soldier wounded in action in Afghanistan
Australian soldier wounded in action in Afghanistan
A Special Operations Task Group (SOTG) soldier has sustained a minor wound from an insurgent Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attack.
On 31 August 2010, a SOTG Bushmaster Protected Mobility Vehicle struck an IED whilst conducting a mission in northern Kandahar Province.
The sole occupant of the vehicle was not hurt during the incident, however, a soldier working close by was later assessed as wounded in action, suffering from the concussive effects of the blast.
The soldier was aero-medically evacuated to the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) Medical Facility at Kandahar Airfield for treatment.
The soldier has returned to duty with SOTG. He is the 150th Australian serviceman to be wounded in Afghanistan.
The announcement of this incident has been delayed until the operation concluded to protect those still in the field.
