Weather Affects Cathay Pacific Flights to Japan

2 February 2011
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Weather Affects Cathay Pacific Flights to Japan, Cairns Passengers Advised to Check Latest Flight Information

Cathay Pacific Airways announced that volcanic ash from Volcano Krishimayama in Japan which erupted earlier today (Wednesday) is likely to affect flights to and from Nagoya, Tokyo and Osaka.

So far flights are operating according to schedule but the situation is volatile. The airline will be closely monitoring the development and will be assessing the situation as more information becomes available.

Passengers are advised to check the airline’s website, www.cathaypacific.co.nz , for up-to-date information before departing for the airport and input their contact details in Manage My Booking to ensure they receive the latest update via SMS and email.

In Cairns, the heavy winds predicted with the impending arrival of Cyclone Yasi has affected flights to that destination. As a result, last night’s service, CX103, departing Hong Kong on 01FEB to Brisbane-Cairns service has terminated in Brisbane, and the Cairns-Brisbane leg of the CX102 service today (2 February) will not operate.

Cathay Pacific flights to Sapporo and New York were also disrupted yesterday due to snow conditions at those airports and flights last week to Jakarta and Denpasar (Bali) were disrupted by volcanic activity of Teenager Caldera volcano in Java, Indonesia.

With such unpredictable events such as volcanic activity or adverse weather conditions Cathay Pacific stresses that it is important for passengers to check the airline’s website for the latest information and to input full contact details under the MANAGE MY BOOKING facility on www.cathaypacific.co.nz. By doing so passengers will receive SMS or email alerts with up to date flight information.
