ITF comment on worsening Egyptian situation
ITF general secretary David Cockroft stated today: “We are shocked at the violence meted out to innocent civilians exercising the democratic right to demonstrate. People have been bloodied, beaten and killed in the full view of a watching and horrified world.”
He continued: “We call on the Egyptian government to listen to the Egyptian people and stop and disown the use of violence. The Egyptian people have to be allowed their right to free speech and to demonstrate their desire for a democratic government.”
“The ITF, along with trade unions and their organisations around the world pledge to provide the necessary solidarity and support that we can.”
