"History is in the making and the situation is moving quickly. The landscape of the Middle East is changing forever," an audience at a special Doha Debates public forum was told.
With protests taking place in several countries following the fall of Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali's regime in Tunisia, The Doha Debates held a public discussion in Qatar to provide students with a platform for sharing their views and expressing their opinions.
Dr. Ibrahim Arafat, Professor of Political Science at Cairo and Qatar Universities, told a packed audience that the Egyptian people had lost all their trust in Mubarak and the region. "What we must wait and see now is whether Egypt will have a Tunisian style democracy or become a new Burma."
Dr. Ibrahim Sharqieh, Deputy Director of the Brookings Doha Centre, pointed out that the revolution was not between the government and opposition, but between the medieval and modernity and between freedom and corruption.
