Aus. High Commission Supports Emu Harbour Health Centre

16 February 2011

Australian High Commission Supports Emu Harbour Health Centre

The Australian High Commission is pleased to announce its support for the Emu Harbour Health Centre, Western Province.

Emu Harbour Health Centre is the only Health Centre for the people in central and north Ranogga Island, caring for approx 20-25 patients per day. Due to water supply problems, the Health Centre has suffered water shortages and health workers have struggled to provide clean water for the Centre and its patients.

Australian High Commission Third Secretary, Ms Rachel Small, recently visited Emu Harbour and presented the Health Centre and Community with a cheque for 16 new water tanks.

The project was funded under the Direct Aid Program (DAP), a small grants program which supports projects spread across all provinces of Solomon Islands. Typical projects include water tanks, school furniture, health clinics, and small income generating projects such as sewing machines, boat-building and copra drying. DAP will provide around 1 million dollars to communities across Solomon Islands this year.
