Fatal car accident at Crib Point, Victoria
Navy can confirm that just before midnight last night, Tuesday 29 March, a motor vehicle accident occurred in the vicinity of HMAS Cerberus involving five Navy personnel.
The vehicle left the road and hit a power pole.
Two of the five occupants died at the scene, while three injured occupants were eventually freed from the vehicle. Two of them are very seriously ill at the Alfred Hospital. The third is in a serious condition at the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
The Navy members were trainees undergoing Marine Technical training at HMAS Cerberus.
The accident is under investigation and Navy will assist Victoria Police with their inquiries. It would not be appropriate for Navy to speculate on any factors contributing to the accident.
Chief of Navy and all members of the Navy family are saddened by this tragic accident and offer their condolences to the families.
