ProAlt demonstration against the government reforms
The second ProAlt demonstration against the government
reforms: „
The Government Against the People, The
People Against the
Government“
Prague, May 3, 2011
On May 7, 2011, ProAlt, with support of several civic
organizations,
will organize a demonstration against the
government reforms. It will
take place on the Jan Palach
Square in Prague, starting at 2 PM. The
speakers include
Jaroslav Zavadil (chairman of ČMKOS, The
Czech-Moravian
Confederation of Trade Unions), Stanislav Štech,
the
Prorector for development of the Charles University
in Prague and
Václav Krása, the chairman of The Czech
National Disability Council.
The demonstration comes two
months after the demonstration of March 5,
2011, which
was attended by an estimate of 1,400 people.
The
government claims to be implementing “a system of
saving” and
“reforms”, but it is unwilling to
divide the costs of austerity
measures between all
segments of our population. Quite the opposite,
some of
its policies serve as a chance for certain segments to
profit
from the public sector, notably in the case of the
reform of the
pension system. The government policies
jeopardize solidarity and
cohesion of the Czech society
and the basic principles of an
effectively democratic
system. The government also failed to disprove
the recent
accusations of intrusion of the private sector into
both
the executive and the legislative branch of
governance. We find the
rule of this government
unacceptable.
The Czech public is increasingly critical of
the government. ProAlt is
not alone in its criticism, a
number of civic organizations, including
the trade
unions, have joined its protest.
