RAMSI Offers Condolences on Death of King George Tupou V

RAMSI Special Coordinator Nicholas Coppel today offered his condolences to the people and Government of the Kingdom of Tonga at the death of his Royal Highness King George Tupou V.

“On behalf of all the members of the Regional Assistance Mission, I would like to extend our condolences to the people and Government of Tonga at the untimely death of their Leader, King George Tupou V”, Mr Coppel said.

Mr Coppel acknowledged the contribution of the late Highness and his Government towards the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands.

“We greatly appreciate the Tongan Government’s unwavering commitment to RAMSI which it has demonstrated over the past nine years,” Mr Coppel said.

“Tonga was among one of the first Pacific countries to contribute police officers, civilian advisers and military personnel to the mission and the participation of personnel from Pacific countries like Tonga have been essential to the mission’s success,” he said.
