Secret Police Abduction
Editor,
An Australian man Premakumar Gunaratnam(42), a political activist involved with the Peoples' Struggle Movement In Sri Lanka, who is missing in Sri Lanka has been kidnapped by the country's "secret police" his family alleges.According to his mother "his life is in danger" She has "lost another son earlier. Ranjitham Gunaratnam was abducted in the same way and until his death [she] had never seen him". *
Is anybody surprised by the family's allegation?
Remember a UN inquiry has alleged that the Sri Lanka state was responsible for the deaths of tens of thousands of Sri Lankan Tamil civilians during its final military assault on the Tamil Tigers. For such a State kidnapping a political activist or two would be a relatively minor matter, wouldn't it?
Yours sincerely,
Rajend Naidu
