Naples Day 4 Racing Abandoned
A violent seaway running in the Bay of Naples forced officials to abandon racing on Day 4 of the America’s Cup World Series regatta.
Match racing semi-finals and final had been scheduled along with two further fleet races.
Strong winds overnight left a swell which was crashing over the breakwaters that protect launch and recovery areas. With of strong winds expected to go on into the late afternoon race organizers we concerned that the launch and recover operations would be compromised.
Today’s scheduled fleet races 7 and 8 have been struck from the programme.
The weather is expected to improve for Sunday when the match racing will be concluded, the 500m speed trials and the high-points scoring final fleet race will be held.
