Peoples' Voice

In her media briefing on 30 April - as reported on all television news chanels - the prime minister Julia Gillard seems to suggest the peoples' articulation of issues in the media is somehow inferior to that of politicians like herself. I don't think so. The key difference between the the people and the politicians is that the people are not playing politics to stay in power when articulating an issue. They are therefore able to bring a more critical mind to bear on issues of public concern. Politicians of course often find such critical thinking unpalatable/not to their liking.

In a true democracy the voice of the people must remain paramount regardless of the personal likes and dislikes of politicians - no matter what their status or political shade.
