Knowing Fiji
Editor,
I know all too well the Fiji Thakur Ranjit Singh talks about in his letter (Fiji Sun 10/5). The gang in the Qarase Government also got rid of me through a cooked up case with the connievance of their puppets in the Fiji Public Service Commission because they saw me as a vocal critic. But I don't blame the free media for all the ills in the country. Like many other institutions of society the media too was manipulated by the politically powerful in post coup Fiji.
It is reductionistic to put all the blame on the media for all the rot in the country.
The media must share the blame.
But it is by no means the only culprit for the troubles that the country has encountered since democracy was first dismantled in May 1987.
A balanced reading of the Fiji situation will reveal that quite clearly.
Yours sincerely,
Rajend
