EMOHR Slams Israel For Systematic Targeting Of Gaza Fishing Sector
27/05/2012

GENEVA, (PIC)-- The
Euro-Mediterranean Observer for Human Rights (EMOHR) said
Israel systematically and deliberately targets the fishing
sector in the Gaza Strip.
In a report on Sunday, the
observatory warned that the systematic Israeli targeting of
the fishing sector in the besieged Gaza Strip led to the
depletion and destruction of this important sector.
The report stated that the Israeli government has sought in recent years to completely destroy the fishing profession, upon which some 70,000 Gazan citizens live, through a gradual reduction of fishing zones where the fishermen are allowed to sail.
The report added that this Israeli policy peaked in 2009 in flagrant violation of its agreement with the Palestinian Authority, which provides 20 nautical miles for fishing along the beach of the Gaza strip.
