Ashqar Warns Of Escalation In Administrative Detention
28/05/2012

GAZA, (PIC)-- The Israeli military prosecution’s claim that it has no knowledge of an agreement with Palestinian prisoners to end the arbitrary policy of administrative detention was opening the door wide open for escalation in this policy.
Riyadh Al-Ashqar, a specialist in prisoners’ affairs, said in a statement on Monday that the agreement between the prisoners and the Israeli prison service stipulated among other things that there would be no extension of administrative detention without clear-cut legal justifications.
He said that the extension should also be approved by the Israeli government’s legal advisor, which would significantly limit such procedure because the Israeli prosecution does not have any legal justification that could stand in a court of law.
Ashqar said that the prosecution’s denial of such an agreement and claiming the presence of secret files against the administrative detainees open the door wide open before the occupation authorities to impose and extend administrative detention against Palestinians, especially MPs.
