During his stay in Brussels he will meet senior European Union officials, including Catherine Ashton, high representative of the EU for foreign affairs and security policy and vice-president of the European Commission, Kristalina Georgieva, commissioner for international cooperation, humanitarian aid and crisis response, Pierre Vimont, executive secretary general of the European External Action Service, and members of the Political and Security Committee of the Council of the EU.

On 17 October, Mr Maurer will be in Paris to meet with François Hollande, president of France, Laurent Fabius, minister of foreign and European affairs, Jean-Yves Le Drian, minister of defence, and members of the United Nations and International Organisations Division of the Foreign Ministry.
