Taiwan Condemns North Korea Nuke Test

Taiwan condemned North Korea Tuesday, shortly after Pyongyang conducted a third nuclear test, saying the action was a gross violation of international norms and posed a threat to world peace.

"The Republic of China (Taiwan) consistently supports the denuclearization efforts in East Asia and reiterates its stance that the Korean Peninsula problem be resolved peacefully through dialogue," the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The Foreign Ministry also urged Pyongyang to abide by the United Nations Security Council's resolutions 1718, 1874, 2087 and immediately stop any act that would jeopardize the region's security, so as to preserve stability and prosperity on the Korean Peninsula and the rest of East Asia.

The Executive Yuan and Ministry of National Defense, meanwhile, said they have obtained detailed information about the situation in North Korea and will continue to monitor developments there.
