Royal Commission needed now to support Health Whistle-blowers and good Medicos

Former State member of QLD Parliament Rob Messenger renewed his call for the establishment of a Royal Commission into QLD Health after it was revealed by the ABC’s 7.30 report that as well as the 6 doctors facing 23 criminal charges, another 14 more doctors have been placed on notice by the Health Quality Complaints Commission (HQCC.)

“For the last 12 months my wife and I have devoted our lives to supporting QLD health whistle-blowers. After the last state election we lived with the latest health whistle blower Jo Barber and kept food on her table after the Newman government, in a vindictive attempt at silencing her, cut off her pay.

My wife and I - and our close friends who care about social issues, have listened to, supported and acted on a number of health whistle – blower’s claims of murderous, negligent and criminal medicos.

I have attended meetings with our state’s top government bureaucrats, whose job was to protect the Public Health and have been personally abused, bullied and fobbed off because I dared to support a whistle blower who wanted to tell the truth.

Premier Newman continued the official government abuse and chose to viciously attack, and defame me at his first press conference in Canberra last year because I helped raise whistle-blower complaints in the media.

Now that we’ve been vindicated by a number of respected reports - and the truth about our sick health system has finally begun to emerge - its now time for the LNP government to stop the political games and establish a Royal Commission. Only a Royal Commission will support and properly protect the over whelming majority of good and dedicated doctors and nurses – who want to come forward and tell the truth and help fix a sick system. They don’t want to work with incompetent or criminal medicos, but this government is forcing them to.” Said Mr Messenger.
