Ambassador Eric Goosby On the Passing of Senator Lautenberg
International Health Issues: Statement By Ambassador Eric Goosby, M.D., U.S. Global Aids Coordinator On the Passing of Senator Frank Lautenberg of New Jersey
06/04/2013 09:28 AM EDT
Yesterday marked the passing of one of the Senate’s great champions for public health, Senator Frank Lautenberg of New Jersey. The five-term Senator was a tireless advocate for the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) as well as the Ryan White CARE Act. Senator Lautenberg’s tenacious efforts on behalf of those living with and affected by HIV/AIDS had an unquestionable impact at home and around the globe. Because of his efforts, millions of lives have been changed for the better.
On behalf of the entire PEPFAR family, I offer my sincere condolence to his family, friends, staff and constituents. His vital voice in doggedly improving public health has been invaluable. While we mourn his loss, we celebrate a life’s contributions to creating an AIDS-free generation.
