Assistant Press Secretary Carl Woog provided the following readout:
Secretary Hagel called Philippines National Defense Secretary Voltaire Tuvera Gazmin to convey his condolences to the people of the Philippines and discuss the United States' support for the Philippines government in the wake of Typhoon Haiyan.
Minister Gazmin thanked the United States for critical contributions from the Department of Defense and other U.S. agencies that have responded in this time of crisis.
By working together, the United States and the Philippines government have been able to save lives. Close coordination and rapid response to each nation's requests have enabled swift access to some of the worst hit areas. Secretary Hagel conveyed that the U.S. military will continue to support its ally in this critical time.
