Peace Tube Sails at NY Boat Show
New York City, New York – In a historic first, attendees to New York’s longest running boat show, embraced a twelve inch tube that Victor Mooney, a devout Catholic of Queens will carry aboard the Spirit of Malabo – a twenty-four foot ocean rowboat, during his 5,000 mile row from Las Palmas, Canary Islands to Brooklyn later this month.
Mr. Mooney also displayed a prayer shawl, which he wore at the Western Wall during a pilgrimage after an audience with Pope John Paul II in Rome.
The “Peace Tube” has the message “Shalom” and “Never Forget” in Hebrew wrapped around it. The tube was donated by Fleischer Tubes, Inc. Mr. Mooney also distributed rosaries and people signed a billboard dedicated to Nelson Mandela during the show.
Mr. Mooney hopes his journey will raise awareness of AIDS, Peace in Israel and the Holocaust. “God-willing, I will depart in two weeks”, said Mr. Mooney at the boat show.
