SOLOMON ISLANDS SUPPORTS VANUATU RELIEF EFFORTS
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Hon. Milner Tozaka presented a cheque of 11 million Vatu to Vanuatu’s Minister of Climate Change Hon. James Bule in Port Vila today to support relief efforts by the Government of Vanuatu following the aftermath of cyclone Pam.
Foreign Minister Tozaka expressed on behalf of the government and the people of Solomon Islands its heartfelt sorrow to the government and people of Vanuatu for the loss of lives and properties following the devastation caused by cyclone Pam.
Minister Tozaka stressed that as a Melanesia neighbor, Wantok and member of the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG), Solomon Islands stands ready to assist the government of Vanuatu following the horrendous impact caused by cyclone Pam.
Minister Tozaka said the assistance given by the government of Solomon Islands will help to assist current relief efforts under taken by the government of Vanuatu through the National Disaster Management Office (NDMO).
Minister Tozaka also said that the Solomon Islands government also offered the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) Patrol Boat, Auki to assist the government of Vanuatu in its relief efforts.
Meanwhile, Hon. James Bule acknowledged the support given by the government and the people of Solomon Islands towards the disaster relief efforts.
He also acknowledged the support rendered by Solomon Islands as a Melanesian Wantok and a member of the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG).
Minister Tozaka is in Port Vila attending a Special Foreign Ministers Meeting (FMM) to discuss ways in which MSG countries could assist in supporting the government of Vanuatu following the aftermath of cyclone Pam.
The Foreign Minister is accompanied by the Permanent Secretary, Mr Beraki Jino and the Assistant Secretary for the Pacific and Regional Organisation Branch, Mr Cornelius Walegerea.
