As recent slavery revelations in Asia have shocked the global fishing industry, the European Tuna Conference will be dedicating ample time to discussing these social issues.
Although no direct links to the tuna industry have emerged, slave and forced labor, but also child labor aboard fishing vessels is something that exists; its presence in some supply chains therefore could also have outward impacts on the tuna sector.
We’re taking the seriousness of this issue to the stage, and at Europe’s top tuna industry event, taking place in less than two weeks, Irene Vidal from the Environmental Justice Foundation (EJF) will address the audience. Her talk will cover combatting modern day slavery and pirate fishing.
