Regrettably, Mauk Moruk killed in the Joint Operation
Mauk Moruk has been killed today in a confrontation during the Joint Operation. Every effort was made during the operation to avoid this outcome.
Regrettably, the Joint Operation involving the National Police Force of Timor-Leste [PNTL] and the Timor Leste Defence Force [F-FDTL] was unable to avoid today’s confrontation in the area of Fatulia, resulting in an exchange of gunfire. There were two other fatalities and a number of injuries. A PNTL officer was wounded.
The Government urges all citizens to remain calm. The Inter Ministerial Commission on Security will meet tomorrow morning and further statements will be made after that meeting.
